The Jackson Heart Study Scientific Conference 2010, will be held in Jackson, Mississippi, September 22 – 24, at the Jackson Convention Complex with cardiovascular disease as the conference topic. The conference theme, Toward Resolution of Cardiovascular Health Disparities, aims to both educate the medical community and the general public, and celebrate practices developed to help overcome health disparities.
The Jackson Heart Study, the largest single-site, epidemiologic investigation of cardiovascular disease among African-Americans ever undertaken, is based in Jackson, Mississippi.
“The Jackson Heart Study exemplifies a unique collaborative model among three institutional partners, the Jackson community and the National Institutes of Health to discover and test the best practices for eliminating health disparities,” said Dr. Sonja Fuqua, 10th Anniversary Conference Coordinator.
Medical professionals, students, community members and Jackson Heart Study participants are invited to attend the two-day conference. The conference will showcase new and valuable scientific discoveries in the field of cardiovascular and related diseases, offer information related to collaborative initiatives and create networking opportunities for interested individuals.
Other events will be held in conjunction with the Jackson Heart Study Scientific Conference 2010. On Friday, September 24 at the Jackson Medical Mall, a Networking Gala will be held starting at 7 p.m. in the University of Mississippi Medical Conference Center.
“We are excited to hold this conference at the Jackson Convention Complex because the building offers a state-of-the art meeting location boasting 330,000 square feet for our group,” said. Dr. Fuqua.
